EDISS to End Support of Modem Technology

For All Modem Users

With technology and connectivity advancements through the years, modem technology has outlived its relevancy within the Healthcare industry. Noridian Healthcare Solutions (NHS) has begun its efforts to sunset support of modem technologies.  

NHS will no longer support modem functionality after October 1, 2018. This is the third notification EDI Support Services (EDISS)  has issued on this change.

If you have not established an alternative submission method to modem functionality by October 1, 2018, you will not be able to transmit your claims electronically, which may result in payment disruption.

Any provider or vendor who utilizes modems for connectivity and data exchange with Noridian will need to find alternative methods for their connectivity.

NOTE: The availability of ABILITY | PC-ACE will not be impacted by modem sunsetting.

Many submitters who still utilize modems may not be aware of the alternative connectivity options available to them. Network Service Vendors (NSVs) offer many affordable, user-friendly connectivity options which allow submitters to utilize a secure SFTP internet connection for file transfers.

NHS has worked with this community to highlight their offerings and price points. Selecting the individual links will take you to each of their respective websites for this information.

NHS and EDISS cannot assist with making this decision for your organization. We encourage your facility to research and determine which NSV fits with your unique needs.

NOTE: If your facility already submits directly with an NSV or utilizes a Clearinghouse or Billing Service, your submission method will not need to change.


EDISS Medicare Remittance Advice Reminder
For All Medicare Part A and B Submitters

Based on CMS direction involving suppression of Standard Paper Remittance Advice (SPR) outlined in Change Request (CR) 10151, EDISS wants to ensure providers are aware of the following:

Medicare Part A Providers: Part A providers will have the option of viewing their Remittance Advice information in the Noridian Medicare Portal (NMP)as single-line Remittance Advice only.  The claim-level remittance information is available using the Direct Data Entry (DDE) system. The only way to obtain the full remittance advice again would be to add the 835 transaction back into the EDISS Connect account.

Medicare Part B Providers: Part B providers will only be able to view their full Remittance Advice in the NMP. To view a Remittance Advice in NMP, providers will need to register for the NMP full remittance advice access.

Reports and Remittances Availability Reminder

For All Submitters

Remits and reports can be reposted within a 30-day timeframe, but will only be available in the Submitter’s mailbox for approximately two weeks before they will time out.  After this two weeks, Trading Partners will need to contact EDISS to have the file reposted. Healthcare industry standards advise retention periods of only 5-7 business days. To assist our Trading Partners, EDISS retains all data for retrieval for 30 days.

EDISS strongly suggests all Trading Partners log into their mailbox daily to ensure they are receiving and retaining all items. If Trading Partners are retrieving data via a direct connection, verify the download destination to ensure these files continually are available. Please backup all data you receive from the EDISS mailbox to ensure data is retained in your office.
