Tips for Unzipping Files

NOTE: These steps are being provided as basic steps to unzip files. If they do not work, submitters will need to work with their technology support staff for assistance.

Step 1
Click the Windows "Start" button and select the "Control Panel." Click "System and Security" and choose "Windows Firewall."

Step 2
Click the "Turn Windows Firewall On or Off" link on the left side of the screen. Locate the "Block all incoming connections, including those in the list of allowed programs" option; if it is selected, deselect it and click "OK" to allow incoming connections such as downloads.

Step 3
If you are still unable to accept ZIP files, click "Start" | Control Panel | System and Security | Windows Firewall." Click the "Allow a Program or Feature through Windows Firewall" link in the pane on the left. Locate the browser or program you are attempting to download ZIP files with and make sure that the box is checked for the network type you are using. If the program isn't present, click the "Allow Another Program..." button and locate the program you wish to add in the list of installed programs.

Step 4
Click the Firewall's "Advanced Settings" link if you are still unable to access ZIP files. Select the "Inbound Rules" option and search the list of rules until you find the one that blocks ZIP files; you can identify it because it will have "ZIP" in the rule name. Right-click the rule and select "Disable Rule" from the context menu to allow ZIP files to be downloaded again.
